Re: The Black Eyed Peas Experience

Rock Band followed the Beatles with Green Day. “Experience” follows Michael Jackson with the Black Eyed Peas? It’s like Ubisoft is practicing their Harmonix impersonation in preparation for Rocksmith, but they’re emulating the bad decisions, too.

Sorry, I’m probably being completely unfair here, but when a company I’m annoyed with has a project with a band I’m annoyed with it feels like they were made for each other.

I remember when the Black Eyed Peas did a funky song with James Brown called “They Don’t Want Music” with lyrics like “they don’t want music, they don’t know how to use it, they just want boom, boom, boom” and “nowadays music is all about fee, the soul is caged no bits now free.” One day they’re commenting on the state of the industry, the next they are using auto-tune and have a big hit called “Boom Boom Pow” that’s being used across the country to sell headphones with powerful bass. It’s sad when someone pulls a complete 180 on the values they had (pretended to have?) and is so obviously self-aware of how full of shit they are.

  1. Moonwalk Says:

I couldn’t agree more with what you said…
About GD following the Beatles (though I own both games) and BEP following MJ, but also about the BEP’s self-aware irony.

It’s like they warned us of the scam they were going to pull.

    • Green Day is one of my favorite bands so I was psyched to play that game, but it was sure a staggering difference. It was kind of funny watching everyone’s jaws hit the floor who had been expecting U2 or Pink Floyd, though!

  2. You are so on point. BEP used to rap about how “hip-hop is being destroyed.” They have become the destroyers.
