Questioning Game Design

Here at SebSpot we decided to take a moment to shine a light on some design choices in games that just didn’t jive with us.  The following is a list of elements that left us frustrated, disappointed, annoyed, or even just confused.  We welcome any input or rebuttals that you have to offer, but just remember that we still loved a lot of these games.  In some cases it’s the sheer amount of time that we spent with these titles that brought the questions to the surface. Call of Duty: Again [Updated]

Call of Duty: Elite was just announced, which is a slew of new features for Call of Duty games including Black Ops and future projects.  The problem?  You’ll have to pay a monthly fee to get them.  They haven’t said which features will require the fee and which ones won’t, but I’ve read all about them and none of them seem even vaguely worth a monthly premium.  Read more »

Export: What the Industry Can Learn from Rock Band

I’ve been playing Rock Band since late 2007, and one of the remarkable things about these games is that I can still play songs from the very first game in the latest release.  I can create a setlist that includes tracks from five different retail discs, then mix in a few downloaded tracks for good measure. My allies tend to just run past all of the enemies without even getting shot at, leaving me entirely on my own to fight through the level. Nice AI.
